R. Ashok

R. Ashok is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka, India. He was formerly the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. He represents the Padmanabha Nagar constituency of Bangalore city in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He belongs to the dominant Vokkaliga community.
==Early political career==
During Emergency (1975–77), he was arrested and was kept in prison with senior leaders like L.K. Advani at the Central Jail in Bangalore. He was first elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in the 1997 by-Elections from Uttarahalli Constituency, which was the biggest state legislature constituency in India.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://eci.nic.in/eci_main/ByeElection/ByeFeb1998/S10/KT-89-LA.HTML )〕 He was re-elected from the same constituency in 1999 and 2004 general election. He was also associated with the youth wing of the party in during these days.
